Match Report :
Saturday saw Tweedmouths first chance this season to gauge themselves against another of last year’s EOS teams with an away fixture against Leith.
Rangers started the brighter of the two teams and in the first 5 minutes got into the opposition box 3 times and register a shot at goal, after this opening flurry the game settled into a much more even period until the fifteen minute marker saw the home side awarded a free kick just outside the box, the resulting shot was deflected over but the resulting corner caused havoc in the box and was eventually side footed home for the home sides opener.
No heads went down in Tweedmouth and the next 10 minutes were fiercely contested in the middle of the park but slowly the home side imposed themselves more and more and after a final 15 minute spell of pressure they racked up 7 attempts at Rangers keeper including a one on one chance all of which were matched by young Fletcher.
Whatever was said at half time worked wonders on the visitors as Tweedmouth saw their best 25 minutes of the match with some excellent battling performances from defence and midfield enabling the front men to test the keeper on 2 occasions as well as putting a free back post header wide. As the half played out legs tired and the play opened up for both teams but on 89 minutes it was to be heart break for Rangers when a defensive mix up from a long ball saw the home striker gifted a clear shot on goal inside the box which he didn’t waste.
The scoreline was harsh on Tweedmouth but overall an encouraging performance to take into next week’s local clash with Coldstream.
