Match Report :

Tweedmouth avenged an early season home defeat by Newburgh, taking control in the second half after goals came thick and fast in a first half punctuated by a monsoon-like downpour.

Rangers were unable to capitalise on a trio of good chances before Sam Straughan eventually put them in front in the 26th minute. This was to be the first of a quartet of scores all of which came inside a spell barely lasting ten minutes.

Newburgh were soon back on level terms. The ball was with Rangers’ Niall Frampton but he lost his footing and it was soon Ronan Hall’s to easily make it 1-1. The keeper was in trouble again as Hall made it a personal double just three minutes later. The scoring burst concluded with Craig Bell putting Tweedmouth back on level pegging ten minutes from the interval.

What was said in the dressing room at half time must have been a factor in Tweedmouth’s more impressive second half performance. Eight minutes in, Bell scored again and went on to have a third ‘goal’, from a header, chalked off as Straughan was ruled to have been offside in the lead up.

With 20 minutes remaining, Tweedmouth lost centre back Evan Smith to a head knock. Aitchison moved back with Jay Baverstock coming on to score with his first touch of the ball immediately after play restarted.

With a two goal cushion, Rangers looked comfortable as they played out the game, often taking the ball to the corners to frustrate Newburgh’s prospects of a late fight back.
