Match Report :

Sat 18th saw Rangers host Blackburn United in the football nation qualifying cup after a tough week which saw them concede 18 goals in 2 games and it only took 4 minutes to add to that terrible tally when a Blackburn player ghosted in from the right evading 3 tackles to find an unmarked team mate at the back post. Unlike recent games where the early goal caused confidence to collapse Tweedmouth picked themselves up and had a decent spell which could of seen Robinson level up had it not been for the crossbar, an opportunity that was to be rued on 16 minutes when a soft free kick on the edge of the home box was neatly despatched into the left hand corner.

The nature of the goal seemed to rattle the home defence who all of a sudden seemed a bit nervous and this was to cost the team again five minutes later when a low cross wasn’t dealt with and the Blackburn striker couldn’t miss from 5 yards to make it 3. The local side again picked themselves up and for the next 25 minutes competed well creating two more chances before being hit with a soft sucker punch in the last minute of the half by way of a free header from a corner.

Second half and Tweedmouth came out fighting and matched the visitors in all areas of the pitch and were almost rewarded after 12 minutes of play when a raking shot from outside the area had to be tipped over the bar, from here on Rangers found a foothold in the game and continued to play well and were again unlucky on 76 minutes when on loan Bloomfield went 1 on 1 with the keeper only to see his shot well saved. It was more excellent keeping that ended the game with the final chance of the day falling to Blackburn inside the home box only to see their shot denied by Fletcher at full stretch. Another defeat but much encouragement can be taken from a second half performance that gives the team back a bit of confidence.
